Departure Publishing

Owner Tosh Brown has written and photographed four nonfiction books. The Blitz was released by Departure Publishing in 2011. Grazing Across Texas was published by Collectors Covey in 2007. Texas Tides, also published by Collectors Covey, was released in 2003 and won the Best Book award that year by the Outdoor Writer’s Association of America. Megalops, Tosh’s collection of tarpon essays, was published by Meadow Run Press in 2001.

Brown has also contributed to the reprints of the classic The Book of Tarpon by A.W. Dimock (1911) and Hunting and Fishing in Texas by Hart Stilwell (1946). He served as the back-page columnist for Fly Fishing in Salt Waters magazine from 2003 to 2005. His writing appears regularly in The Flyfish Journal, Gray’s Sporting Journal, and The Drake.

Tosh’s angling, shooting, and travel photographs have appeared in over fifty outdoor magazines. He also licenses stock and assignment images to a number of advertising agencies, outfitters, and sporting apparel/product manufacturers. 

From 1989 to 1999, Tosh owned a sporting travel agency that specialized in international fly fishing and wing shooting trips. During that time he hosted groups and traveled extensively from Alaska to the Amazon.

Brown graduated from the University of Texas in 1986 and currently lives in Austin with his wife, Kathy, and their children Blake and Emily.
